WAZA FLO U-12 Boys Crowned Champions in TCFSL
December 15, 2007 - The WAZA FLO U-12 Boys Green team completed a perfect season this past fall to win the Division II championship in the Tompkins County Fall Soccer League. The team finished 8-0-0 as they dominated the league by scoring 41 goals and out-shooting their opponents 173-30. The leading scorer on the team was Jake Czapranski with 10 goals and 3 assists. Eight-year old Vince Borden was the second leading scorer with 9 goals and 3 assists. Jaime Eddlestone was superb in goal all season, giving up only 7 goals for a 0.875 goals against average.
WAZA was able to defeat three teams from Ithaca (one team twice), one from Trumansburg and one from Watkins Glen. The two toughest games of the season came against Corning United and Lansing Galaxy. In the Corning game, WAZA held a halftime lead of 3-1 on 2 goals by Jake Czapranski and one by Donovan Baird. Corning came on strong at the start of the second half and scored two quick goals in the first 5 minutes to tie the game. However, goals by Czapranski in the 48th minute and Charlie Mauser in the 55th minute sealed the victory. This proved to be an important game since it was Corning’s only defeat of the season.
In the last game of the season, the Lansing Galaxy proved to be a very tough opponent. WAZA got off to a quick start by scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. Again, Jake Czapranski scored both goals on passes from Christopher Emley. The Galaxy was able to score late in the game, but Jaime Eddlestone came up with a couple of great saves down the stretch to preserve the victory, 2-1.
The defense was stellar all season and was anchored by Michael Harvey, Ross Cole, William Koll, Charlie Mauser, Jason Yahn and Parker Hubbell. The highly-skilled midfield consisted of Mason Wolff, Sascha Pacun, Vince Borden, Christopher Emley, Nicholas Gualtieri and Hunter Hartshorne. The target players up front were Jake Czapranski, Michael Gualtieri and Donovan Baird.
The team was coached by head coach LaMarr Peters and assistant coaches Fernando Gualtieri and Mark Emley. Mary-Elizabeth Eddlestone served as team manager.
The season was a great success and is a testament of the hard work from the players all season long. Coach Peters instilled individual ball control training, small-sided games and fitness early in the season. The training proved to be the key as many of the technical skills training and tactics were carried over into the games.
We would also like to thank the parents for their support all season. Great season everyone!
